So
much of what we do today is driven by software. And the same is true
of automated time and attendance. It is the time and attendance software
that drives the system!
For example, while any PC and any printer can output an attractive document, it is the word processing or desktop publishing software that created the document-its margins, fonts, indents, paragraph breaks, graphics, color scheme and supporting artwork. The same is true of time and attendance. A truly automated time and attendance system is driven by the time and attendance software, and is not hardware dependent!
Time Systems International is not the publisher
of a single piece of time and attendance software, but an integrator
of several time and attendance software packages. Just as we will
recommend the hardware best suited to your organization's location,
environment, and unique needs, applications and objectives, TSI
will recommend the time and attendance software that provides the
best value for your time and attendance needs.
Different time and attendance software packages have different
capabilities, so here are some of the issues that need to be addressed
when selecting a time and attendance software package:
| » |
Enterprise or
ASP Software? Time and attendance software can be enterprise
software (that means you own the software and host it on your
network) or it can be ASP (application service provider) or
web-based software-as-a-service, and you access it over the
Internet. You generally purchase and own time and attendance
enterprise software, while you usually pay a per-employee fee
to use ASP or web-based software as a service. |
| » |
NOT
Hardware-Dependent: Time and attendance software should
NOT be hardware-dependent, but must be able to support various
data input and data output devices. |
| » |
Seamless Payroll
Interface: Truly state-of-the-art time and attendance
software will effortlessly and seamlessly output edited payroll
data to any payroll processing software. |
| » |
Allow for Editing: It should
collect, compute and store raw payroll data, but state-of-the-art
time and attendance software permits that data to be edited
by those authorized to do so, and maintains an audit trail of
all edits. |
| » |
Benefit Day Accrual: In
addition to tracking actual time worked, time and attendance
software keeps track of both accrued and used benefit days. |
| » |
Management Reports: Basic
time and attendance software collects and stores data, but the
more effective time and attendance software produces reports
and outputs data that helps managers manage more effectively. |
| » |
Job Cost Data: Some
time and attendance software programs include job costing or
ABC (applied benefit costing) data that helps multi-product,
multi-service or multi-location businesses allocate their labor
costs across different divisions, departments, product lines,
customers or projects. |
| » |
Total Integration: The newer
time and attendance software packages integrate with access
control, scheduling, HR, accounting and other software to create
a highly integrated time and attendance system. |
After performing a thorough needs analysis, your TSI
consultant will recommend the time and attendance software, and supporting
package of hardware, that best meets your organization’s unique
time and attendance needs and objectives.
