The latest in employee time recorders is hand recognition, or the “hand punch”. Hand punches record employee attendance quickly, effortlessly and with a high degree of reliability. A hand punch employee time recorder measures and then stores the shape of each employee’s hand, and employees then clock in and out by placing theirs hands on a flat plate in the hand punch.

Despite the term “punch”, the employee’s hand is not “punched”. The employee simply places his or her hand on a flat panel, and the employee feels nothing. Biometric time recorders can be configured several different ways, but the most common set-up is to have the hand punch display the employee’s name or ID number, as well as the time and date, once it has read the employee’s hand image.

Hand punches are becoming increasingly popular time recorders for several reasons:
» No Employee ID Cards: They eliminate issuing ID cards to employees
» No Lost ID Cards: Employees cannot forget, misplace or lose their employee ID card
» No Replacement ID Cards: There are no employee ID cards, none ever need to be replaced
» No “Buddy Punching”! One employee cannot clock in or out for another employee at a biometric time recorder, so “buddy punching” is totally eliminated
» Controlled Access: When an employee leaves, his or her hand print can immediately be removed from the system so he or she cannot log in at any time recorder in the facility
» Comfortable Technology:While there has been some resistance to fingerprint time recorders, because employees fear that their fingerprints will be sent to the government or fall into the wrong hands, hand punches are widely accepted by employees as safe, reliable, easy-to-use, non-invasive time recorders.
» No Safety Issues: Similarly, while retina scan biometric time recorders are also safe, accurate and reliable, some employees unjustifiably fear damage to their eyes when they look into them, and that is not a problem with hand punches.

For clients with larger numbers of hourly employees whose attendance needs to be accurately recorded, a hand punch time recorder may be part of the total time and attendance solution recommended by Time Systems.
