The
latest technology in employee attendance tracking is biometrics. Biometric
hardware records a physical feature of each employee. Rather than
using an ID card-that can be misplaced or given to another employee-the
science of biometrics enables employees to clock in and out using
a fingerprint, hand image, retina scan or other unique physical characteristic.
Employees pass their fingers over a fingerprint-reading biometric
terminal, or place their hands into biometric hardware that readers
the image of their hand. Upgrading to biometrics and installing biometric
hardware offers many advantages:
| » |
No Need for ID Cards: ID cards no longer need to be issued
to employees |
| » |
No Lost ID Cards:
Employees cannot forget, misplace or lose
their employee ID card |
| » |
No Replacement ID Cards:
There are no cards for employees to lose, so no cards ever need
to be replaced |
| » |
No “Buddy Punching”:
One employee cannot clock in or out for another employee at
a biometric terminal, so “buddy punching” is totally
eliminated |
| » |
No
Unauthorized Entry: When
an employee leaves, his or her imprint can immediately be removed
from the biometric system and from all biometric hardware |
Biometric terminals are not expensive, but they are durable and reliable, and using biometrics to record employee attendance is a logical and affordable next step in the automation of an employee time and attendance system.
